Professional networking with Facebook

Have you seen the difference in the new way Facebook is being used for professional networking lately? Use of Social Media Requires Common Sense

There have been more than enough stories reported in the media of late involving people making careless mistakes on social networking sites that result in job loss, a missed opportunity or lost business. Examples: the Ketchum PR exec who tweeted how much he hated Memphis, TN during a visit to Federal Express HQ's. Fed Ex found out about it and fired the agency. Or how about the opportunity that slipped through the hands of a potential job candidate when he tweeted about taking a boring job at… Continue

How Facebook Changes Will Alter Recruiting Strategies

I had the distinct pleasure of joining Michael Kelemen on the Recruiting Animal Show yesterday to talk about Facebook. If you've never listened to the show, prepare yourself. It's a call-in show of rowdy miscreants and the occasional unsuspecting guest, all run by the Recruiting Animal himself. Yesterday's show had some technical difficulties, but the callers jumped in and grilled me, argued with me, and asked a lot of great questions.

That was the finding from a recent survey conducted by Emailvision, a global email marketing service, which surveyed over 100 companies at a recent Online Marketing Show. The majority of companies said they prefer SEO and email as the leading tools to reach their target audience. The same companies cited little… Continue

Don't Believe the Hype -- Social Networking Has Value

Brightkite, a mobile social networking service and GfK Technology, a market research company, recently teamed up to conduct a survey on what people think about social networking. 87% of the 1000 people questioned say they prefer to deal with people face-to-face rather than through technology or smartphones. The results were reported in USA Today (Many adults say they're not sold on social networks).

How the questions for this survey were structured dictates how the responses are… Continue
